Aska Josephine

Director
Known as “Mama Deaf,” Aska Josephine was named mother of the Deaf community for her tireless dedication to uplifting and uniting Deaf women and girls across Kenya. She is a Deaf feminist leader and activist passionate about the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of Deaf girls and women. After years of working in the disability space, Aska founded the Federation of Deaf Women Empowerment Network Kenya (FEDWEN-K), a grassroots organization that promotes access to sexual and reproductive health, prevents gender-based violence, and supports economic inclusion for Deaf women. Through FEDWEN, Aska also champions civic participation and accessibility, ensuring Deaf voices are represented in decision-making spaces in national, regional and global platforms.
